In 1939 he graduated from the All-Russia Academy of Arts.
He volunteered to the front in July 1941. He served in the aviation camoufleur in flying units, defending Leningrad, a radio operator-gunner on dive bombers, the artist edition of the army newspaper "Attack". Almost every issue published his drawings dedicated to the heroes of the war and the nitty-gritty of the city. They were published in the form of front-line albums, which were given a particularly distinguished themselves in combat pilots and flight departments, and portraits of the Heroes of the Soviet Union were duplicated in the form of postcards.
