The treasure discovered two Britons - David and Andrew Whelan, who were carried away searching for ancient tombs. Examining the territory of one of the farms in the county of North Yorkshire with metal detectors, they found an old coin. However, hunters did not stop at this place and decided to dig a little deeper discoveries.

In the ground they found a gilded silver cup, 617 silver coins, gold bracelets, brooches, as well as pieces of raw silver. Experts believe that found the cup was made in northern France in the ninth century, and coins dated from the tenth century.

Specialists believe that all these jewels belonged to a famous Vikings, who had buried them in the ground for the preservation of about 927 year. It was at this time under King Etelstane Anglo-Saxons who drove the Vikings from the north of England.

Under British law, the British Museum will be asked to redeem these values, but the money will be evenly divided between the treasure hunters, who have found the treasure, and the owner of the land.
