But there Altman's work in the hive. I showed one, and another?

In the spring of 1928 Altman left the theater on a tour in Europe and after the tour stayed in France. Introduction to the processes taking place in contemporary French art, prompted him to return to painting. The artist wrote a large number of landscapes and still lifes, in which he subtly and uniquely revived the tradition of Impressionism. At the same time Altman was still master of all trades: He has designed several excellent children's books, has prepared a very interesting illustration of the "Petersburg tales, Nikolai Gogol (1933-34, published in 1937) and a series of lithographs on the theme of the Old Testament, and also engaged in design and interior design. Returning to his homeland in 1935, Altman was in grave political situation of ideological pressure and the unfolding terror. His paintings are so inconsistent with the criteria being implemented socialist realism, he was forced to leave her altogether, and deal only with set design and book graphics, where some specific work to some extent avoids the ideological fault-finding and be less noticeable. Among his creations of the time allocated to the scenery of the famous Shakespearean play, set by the Leningrad Theater (GBDT - "King Lear", 1941; Drama Theater. A Pushkin - "Othello", 1944, "Hamlet", 1954), costumes by film "Don Quixote" (1955), illustrations for the works of Sholom Aleichem, V. Blasco Ibáñez, E. Castro, E. Zola, etc. During the last years of his life Altman has created several easel oil paintings on grounds of former theatrical sketches. (c)
