Ivan Sotnikov (St. John) was born in 1961, systematic art education is not received. Visited while studying in school children's art school, briefly studied at a vocational school with a photographic bent. As an artist Sotnikov was formed early on, for twenty years his style was already fully formed. Widely known in narrow circles" connoisseurs of painting of the Leningrad underground Ivan acquired in the early 1980-ies as a participant of numerous exhibitions of TEII (the Association of Experimental Art), as well as exhibitions organized by Timur Novikov group "New artists" (perhaps the three most significant artist of this group - Timur, Oleg Kotelnikov, Ivan Sotnikov). First there was the guard, then - over time - became a deacon.
