I have received education at home. In 1908-1909 years in Odessa, independently engaged in sculpture. In 1910 he went to Paris where he acquires a specialty of the artist-sculptor, attended an evening art school, studying at the Academy Grand Shaw, where the sculpture studio led E. Bourdelle, the Russian Academy - without teachers. Since 1912 began work on a specialty. L. Halperin participated actively in the life of the Russian Academy, was secretary of the Board (1913), a member of the editorial board of leftist artists "Helios", carried out the editor, wrote the article. Creativity of the artist can be divided into two phases. The first - overseas, he works primarily in sculpture, on the second - the Soviet, mostly in the field of graphics and painting. At the beginning of the First World War artist went to Turkey, went to Greece and settled in Alexandria (Egypt), where from 1914 to 1919. gave private lessons in sculpting and studied sculpture. Some worked in Jaffa and Jerusalem. Then he moved to Vienna, where he lived the manufacture of wooden bas-reliefs, which were sold in New York. At the end of 1921 he returned to Russia. The second stage consists of Moscow (1921-1928), Leningrad (1928-1934) and camp (1935-1938) periods. Of the thirteen years spent in Moscow and Leningrad, Halperin had a job specialty, a total of not more than five years, more odd jobs. December 25, 1934 he was arrested and sentenced to 5 years. Prosecution was the way in which the artist painted the leaders. Images were considered counter-revolutionary in its content. According to testimony Halperin denied the existence of art in the Soviet Union and generally skeptical of the existing system. Part time he served in Karlag, then transferred to Dmitlag Moscow region. The death certificate Halperin says: "Cause of death - shot». (c)
