Martiros Sergeevich Sarian (1880 - 1972) - Armenian and Soviet landscape painter, graphic artist and stage designer.
Full member AH the USSR (1947). People's artist of the USSR (1960). Full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR (1956). Hero Of Socialist Labor (1965). Chairman of the Union of artists of Armenian SSR (1947-1951). Laureate of Lenin prize (1965) and the Stalin prize of the second degree (1941).
The Saryan has played a leading role in the establishment of the national school of the Armenian Soviet painting.
Martiros Saryan was born on 16 (28) February 1880 in Patriarchal Armenian family in the city of Nakhichevan-on-don (now within the city of Rostov-on-don).
In 1895 he graduated from city College. From 1897 to 1904 he studied at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture, including workshops Century A. Serov and K. A. Korovin. In 1901-1904, he made a trip to my homeland, visiting Lori, Shirak, Echmiadzin, Haghpat, Sanahin, Yerevan and lake Sevan.
