At a press conference held today, November 24, 2014, Director and President of the Art Museum Bern/Kunstmuseum Bern Christoph Soublin/Christoph Schäublin announced that the Museum decided to accept the inheritance scandalous collector Cornelius Gurlitt. Soublin called the decision "difficult", but, in his opinion, the Museum will do everything to set new standards with those works of art that can be stolen from victims of the Holocaust. The Museum will operate a privately funded group of experts to study the provenance of each work before it gets to the balance of the Museum.
Full list of works of art from the collection of Gurlitt will be released on Tuesday, which should help potential applicants.
Christoph Soublin stressed that the Museum is going to follow "the Washington principles" 1998 assets era of the Holocaust.
