Born in Moscow on December 30, 1880 (January 11, 1881) in a family of entrepreneurs. In 1898 graduated from the Stroganov School of Industrial Art , where he later taught until 1905 . In 1903-1904 traveled to Italy with the architect I.V.Zholtovskim later worked as an assistant in his studio , performing a series of neoclassical architectural projects. Secondary visited Italy in 1910 with the architect R.I.Kleynom . In 1911, mastered the technique of etching under the leadership R.N.Raman - Gamon , student VV Mate . During the third Italian journey (1912) painted landscapes from nature directly on the etching boards. Participated in exhibitions of the "World of Art" and " Four Arts ". Lived in Moscow.
In his engravings cycles ( Italian Suite , 1912-1915 ; Crimean Suite, 1916-1917 , both etching, aquatint , caucasian Capriccio , etching, aquatint , white bar , color gasket , 1923-1926 ) romantically stylized impressions of ancient architecture and beautiful nature . However, sensitive to the modern trends , introduced in later images (series Zemo Avchala hydroelectric ( Zahesi ) , etching and drypoint , 1927) techniques of propaganda installation. Acted as a monumental neoclassical ( painting in the Museum of Fine Arts , 1908-1912 , and inside the hotel "Metropol" , 1931). Supervised the interior decoration of the mausoleum of Vladimir Lenin (1924 , architect AV Shchusev ) created there ( in the art of Italian mosaic ) in the form of mourning frieze bowed banners .
Fruitfully worked as a stage designer , filling out in the spirit of monumental decorative historicism M.A.Chehova masterpiece - his statement of Eric XIV A. Strindberg 1st Moscow Art Theatre (1921) , as well as Princess Turandot C.Gozzi ( third in the Moscow Art Theatre , 1922), The Barber of Seville by Rossini ( the Opera Theater of Stanislavsky , 1933) and a number of other performances. Engaged in a poster and book and magazine graphics. Apart from the Stroganov School , taught at the Higher Art and Technical Studios ( Higher Art , 1921-1930 ) .
Nivinsky died in Moscow October 27, 1933 .
