After working designer wallpaper and commercial artist. Magritte's early works were performed in the style of Cubism and Futurism influenced by Fernand Leger. In 1922 Magritte married Georgette Berger, whom he met in fifteen years. After the wedding, she was the only model for his paintings. Understanding the metaphysical painter Giorgio de Chirico and poetry Dadaistic was an important turning point for creativity Magritte. In 1925, Magritte is a group of Dadaists, works in the magazines "Aesophage" and "Marie" with Jean Arp, Picabia, Tzara and other Dadaists. In 1925-1926 Magritte wrote "Oasis" and "Lost Jockey" - his first surrealist paintings. In 1927-1930 Magritte lived in France, participated in the activities of the Surrealists, close friends with Max Ernst, Dali, André Breton, Luis Buñuel, and especially with Paul Eluard. In Paris, Magritte's system of conceptual painting was finally formed and remained almost unchanged until the end of his life. In the pictures of the artist's ever-present sense of tension and mystery ( "Companions of Fear," 1942; "Explanation," 1954; "Bouquet of Tears", 1948). Strange night landscape gleams under-lit daylight sky ( "Empire of Light", 1954). Magritte masterfully created a contrast between the beautifully written out odd combinations of unreal objects and the natural environment, to this end he has used in his canvases symbols of mirrors, eyes, the windows ( "False Mirror," 1935; "The key to space," 1936; "Beautiful World" , 1962). Magritte's passion for philosophy and literature is reflected in many of his paintings, for example. "Gigantessa" (on Baudelaire), 1929-1930, "Field Arnheym" (by Edgar Poe), 1938. In 1940 Magritte tried to change his style of painting. But the so-called periods of "plein-soleil" in 1945-1947 and "epoque vache" in 1947-1948 were not any effective and the artist returned to his manner of writing. In 1950 Magritte executed two cycles of frescoes: "The space of charm" for the casino Knokke-le-Zut (1953) and "ignorant fairy" (1957) for the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi. Rene Magritte died on Aug. 15, 1967 in Brussels from cancer at the age of 69 years.
