In 1997, the film was nominated for an Academy Award (Oscar) in 12 categories, as a result received 9 of them, including the award for Best Film. Also, the film won two Golden Globe awards and six awards of the British Academy of Film and Television.
Juliet Binoche won an Oscar for Best Actress.
