Martiros Saryan (1880 - 1972) - one of the great artists of the twentieth century, a master of color. "Color - a true miracle! - Exclaimed the artist. - In conjunction with sunlight, it creates the internal content of the form, expresses the essence of universal being. " Fabrics Saryan, painted with bright, saturated colors, develop a new aesthetic perception, making it possible to understand that art is not merely an imitation of reality: it requires freedom of imagination and abstraction. Sarian first half of 1910-ies - a bold innovator masterfully combined the pictorial traditions of the East with new achievements of European art of the twentieth century. The artist gained recognition in Russia. His paintings were acquired by the Tretyakov Gallery, some exhibited in Europe.
In 1921, Saryan settled in Armenia in order to dedicate his art to the spiritual revival of the native people. And though the ideology of the Soviet Union, in which he lived, created some difficulties for the free development of creativity, Saryan remained faithful to the principles of his style, his vision of the world. Designed by the artist formerly techniques and forms of expression were enriched with new content. The founder of modern Armenian school of painting, Saryan argued in his work timeless, universal values of high art. This is the global significance of his legacy.
