The painting was acquired by the director of the Art Fund “New Gallery” Valentin Gorlov from the proximate successors of Nadezhda Udaltsova in 1997 during the renovation of the art studio on the Old Arbat (precisely on Big Afanasievsky, 9) which belonged to Nadezhda Udaltsova and her husband A. Drevin who was an artist as well.

The condition was the following: underframe absent, the canvas was rolled, with slough and disintegration of polish. In 1998 the painting was restored in Tretyakovskaya State Gallery (see the Ticket of restoration №14 from 23d of March 1998 in the attachment).

In 2011 the authorship of Nadezhda Udaltsova was confirmed by the Head of Pictorial Art of the beginning of the XXth century of the Tretyakovskaya State Gallery T. A. Ermakova, the author of monographs on N. Udaltsova. (See the Certificate of authenticity in the attachment).

A Girl Reading a Book was at Auction House “Gelos” (Moscow) in 1998 by lot number 251.

In 2007 it was included into the book by the Art Fund “New Gallery” “The Romanticism of Socialist Realism. The Reverse Side of the Medal.”
