In 1977 he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Vyacheslav Mikhailov was born in 1945 in the Stavropol region, in a remote village of the railway Arzgir. Thrice Mikhailov could not go to art school in Rostov-on-Don. Written waiver of school "no longer worried because of complete lack of talent", of course, there was an insult that was the kind of challenge the young man. In 26 years, having served in the army, Mikhailov has dared to enter the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Ilya Repin. Ventured successfully completing the Institute in the class of painting in the studio of Professor Yevsey Moiseenko. In 1979 Mikhailov finishes graduate school, and in the studio Moiseenko.
The canons of academic education is not completely satisfied artist. In the late 1970s, graduates of the Academy of Arts Vyacheslav Mikhailov and Valery Lukka along with the artist Felix Volosenkov declared themselves as creative group seeking, like all creative groups, the search for new means of expression. Thus, artists disowned well-known and revered tradition of painting, trying to approximate their work to life and turn them into something organic.
