Cherkassky Abram Markovich
[25.6 (7.7) .1886, White Church, 30.11.1967, Almaty], Soviet painter, People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR (1963). He studied at the Kiev Art School (1901-09) and AA Murashko and the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1909-17) at N. Dubovsky, VE Savinskoye, J. F. Tsionglinskogo. One of the first in Ukraine turned to the subject of the life of the Soviet peasantry ("tractors", 1928, Museum of Ukrainian Art Ukrainian SSR, Kiev). From 1941 he worked in Kazakhstan. As a teacher (in 1941-58 he taught at the Art School. Gogol in Alma-Ata) and artist played an important role in the training of professional Kazakh artists. Among the students of St. Mambeev, K. Telzhanov etc. Author lyric and epic landscapes, often performed in an energetic, wide manner of writing, composition paintings, portraits ("People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR KU Bader", see fig.) still lifes. He was awarded the "Badge of Honor" and a medal.
