Russian painter, master of military portraits. He was born in Kostroma, Russia. From 1875 has been an auditor of the Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1880 he entered the service. Paint, leaving military service. In 1883 he graduated from training in the Corps of Pages. From 1904 - Commander of the East-Siberian Streletsky regiment. In 1909 he was transferred to the suite, from 1915 - Lieutenant-General. In 1904 - 1915 has received numerous awards for his military honor and bravery, among them a golden weapon. He painted portraits of soldiers, watching them in battle, and at play. He did pencil sketches and watercolor portraits. One of the main representatives of the Russian military portrait of turn of the century.
