Meshkov Vasily Nikitich
    Basil bags Nikitich [12.25.1867 (01.06.1868), Elec - 26.11.1946, Moscow], Soviet painter and graphic artist, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1943). He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1882-89) in the IM Pryanishnikov, Polenov and the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1889-90). Member of the Moscow Association of Artists (since 1893), LHRR (since 1922). He taught at his own school of painting and drawing in Moscow (1892-1917) and the Academy of Arts in Leningrad (1937-1940). Students: BN and VN Yakovlev, P. Shukhmin. He painted genre scenes in the spirit of the late Wanderers (mainly in the 1890s.), Landscapes and portraits. The most significant portraits of the Soviet era (Budenny, 1927, Mikhail Kalinin, 1937 - both in the Tretyakov Gallery), characterized by observation and truthful performance. He was awarded the Order of Labor Red Banner and medals. Father and teacher of landscape Vasily M. (1893-1963).

Vasily Nikitich Meshkov (1867/1868-1946) - Soviet Russian painter and graphic artist. People's Artist of the RSFSR, Doctor of art sciences, professor of Arts of the USSR.


Biography and Work

Born on December 25 (January 6) in 1868 in Yelets (now Lipetsk region) in the family of a baker. Early left an orphan. From childhood to earn a living by painting icons in Zadonsk monastery.

He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1882-1889), where, under the leadership of E. Sorokin, IM Pryanishnikov especially Polenov emerged as a realist then studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts (1889 - , 1890). Member of the Moscow Association of Artists (since 1893), the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (since 1922). He taught at his own school of painting and drawing in Moscow (1892-1917) and the Academy of Fine Arts in Leningrad (1937-1940).

Bags painted genre pictures in the spirit of the late Wanderers (preim. in the 1890s), landscapes and portraits. In the early 1890s in his hometown of Yelets begins the creative activity of the artist as a master portraitist. Vladimir Meshkov with great skill passed on individual psychological traits of the man, revealing its social aspect. Created this painting "Portrait of Elets Superior," "Curious" is stored in the regional museum. written "Self Portrait", portraits of his wife, EK Meshkova, surgeon PI Postnikov, A. Perfilieva, Fyodor Chaliapin and others. Portraits Meshkov different sharp and accurate drawing, modeling expressive faces.

At the same time Meshkov acted as a genre painter ("Dentistry", 1891, "Evening Serenade," 1893, "blind artist", 1898, and other pictures), and marked by fine observation of landscapes ("freezes", 1898, and others).

In 1917 begins a new upsurge of art Meshkov, it is filled with new content. He performs a series of portraits (Pavel Chistyakov and Sobinov, 1917), studies. With special attention Meshkov working on portraits of the Communist Party. He writes, full of great inner strength portraits Budenny and VR Menzhinsky (both 1927). In the early 1930s. working on portraits of Stalin, Dzerzhinsky, Voroshilov. Deep honesty and warmth are different portraits of Mikhail Kalinin (1929) and his mother, MV Kalinina (1930). In 1924, Meshkov writes a portrait of Clara Zetkin, and in the 1930s. creates portraits of Marx and Engels. Bags often turned and images of the Soviet culture (portraits Kachalov and IM Moskvin, both 1932), the workers, the Red Army. His works occupy a worthy place in major museums and galleries in Russia and abroad. More than a dozen of his works is in the Lipetsk Elets and local history museums.

An important role in the history of Soviet art Meshkov played as a talented teacher. Among his students B. Yakovlev, Vladimir Yakovlev, P. Shukhmin, as well as a landscape artist's son Vladimir Meshkov (1893-1963).

Vladimir Meshkov died November 26, 1946. He was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow (part number 4).

In 1960 the artist's name given the new street Lipetsk. Meshkov Street is also in Yelets.
