At OpenSpace published yesterday Diary singles into the abyss of the art market our Seriy-Iksigona. Well, his own text and photos, we know well, he is here, from this theme, but the introduction and commentary on the diary of "Return of the black square" are interesting, because there would be a neutral view on the issue - people look not to the forum AI and think this may not completely objective, but it deserves, I think, interested in the matter of attention.
Thus, the entry:

A new section OPENSPACE.RU gives voice to artists who understand the word "modern art" quite differently
We are very grateful to the Muscovite SERGEY VLADIMIROVICH Kiseleva, working in a network under the pseudonym IKSIGON, who sent us his online diary, and thus gave the idea of a new rubric.

Kiselev calls himself a "web designer" - in his words, his work quite successfully sold online, and he repeatedly led the ranking of Russian artists on the site artmajeur.

Deciding under the same pseudonym to get real, Iksigon organized in the CHA his personal exhibition "Return of the black box." In parallel, he kept a diary of events in his blog and discuss each stage of the exhibition on the forums (here and here) with artists, gallery owners, journalists and bloggers. According to the artist himself, his experience is unique, as "the first outdoor experience of the artist's attempt to go online to offline media." Unexpectedly, the artist's exhibition was a commercial success, and among his fans have been all sorts of people - from professional gallery owners to television stars.

Mentioned in the text names, names of institutions (except for the CHA) and sites on art were totally unfamiliar to us. The impression is that outside of a professional international contemporary art world there are some other art world (and probably more), which is completely self-contained and has its own criteria for success.

Art Brut (art brut - raw art), or "outsider art» (outsider art) - is an art that is created outside the existing regulatory institutions. In the 1950s, even as these institutions took shape, the French painter Jean Dubuffet admired the art and began under his stylized. Dubuffet had in mind primarily the work of the mentally ill, but we did not want to offend those who speak in this category: it is all those who - unfortunately or fortunately, there may be differences of opinion - did not realize that contemporary art is today - is primarily defined career system of institutions, which the artist has to pass from his youth ("correct" art-school) and up, in a literal or a creative sense of the grave (part of the "Documents" and solo retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York ), and without precise follow the first steps will be gone.

Modern art - it is also a system rather rigid rules of etiquette, it is unclear from the side. For example: the artist himself does not have to sell their work, to show it should be written in the text of a famous critic, and even better philosopher or politician, should work intellectually, but in any case not in an emotional manner, the product should be "critical" or " provocative "nature, which would under this or understand; success - a success only in certain international institutions, a list which will delight the professional and not say anything to the uninitiated, wider audience interest does not mean anything at all, etc. If the author of these rules does not know what he looks like "naive". Sometimes he can be glorified in that capacity.

All of the former Soviet art in which so prized painting from nature, emotion, imagination, paint, love the wide audience (all that with today's "corporate" point of view slightly indecent), can be considered naive in this sense, though today it exists already in other forms, often in the form of "individual private enterprise." For us, it is interesting that this very simplicity helps with fresh eyes to look at the professional system of contemporary art, to which we belong and to determine what it lacks and what it in abundance.

No it is not al-brut. Ar-brut is primarily a work of art rather than for the purpose of exchanging money for signs. And here is actually the main goal and much more interesting than most zhivpoisi, deep secondary, calculated on the effect of recognition, "smortite ka just like a Picasso," that is, the layman may be somewhat more educated than the Arbat. Zasulaga to the author - in a good marketing course, podobrobny detailed story on numerous websites and formumah about promoting their "creativity" - attracts vnimaenie. Apparently this is what in the entertainment business is promotion. Plus respectful affectionate attitude to potential buyers. What is really there to al-brut with his fools. Somehow embarrassing for openspace that he too fell for this duochku.

Vladimir Kaigorodov · 2012-02-01 17:53:26 agree that this is not art brut but rather decorative painting in which the furniture shops offer immediately complete with furniture. I know one of the very similar artist here, he draws and his wife - the genius of sales ... Everything is sold and it is through furniture stores. And art-brut is here for example.
My friend draws his psychosis, for 15 years and he is treated, including art therapy ...

Vladimir Kaigorodov · 2012-02-01 21:01:17 The situation described is absolutely true. all the same thing applies to modern science ... To become a professor must start with a 2 year uni has to aspire to and preprinimat quite specific steps in the correct order (as long as others also do not know anything). That is, the professors are very savvy and career-oriented, and not the most talented and enthusiastic science.

That's the art all the same ... The system has its own rules and to protect itself from intruders and invaders.
