Vasily Surikov
Russian historical painter and genre painter
January 24, 1848 - March 19, 1916

Vasily Surikov was born (12) January 24, 1848.

From 1858 to 1861 he studied at the Krasnoyarsk district school and later served as a clerk in one of the state-owned institutions, amateur practicing drawing and painting.

In 1870 he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts students. Surikov worked for several years on his latest large canvas, "Stepan Razin" (1907-1910, RM). The picture was given to him easily, and the artist has returned to it after the work has been shown to viewers.
