The famous Russian painter, a classic of world art

Valentin Serov was born January 19, 1865 in St. Petersburg, in a musical family. Very early in his talent for painting emerged, and the first teacher was Ilya Repin.
In 1880, it is recommended Repin Valentin Serov for admission to the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Valentine's mentor during his studies was Paul Chistyakov.
Serov's early works, such as "Girl with Peaches", depicting the daughter Mamontov, who are very life-force, rich colors. For this portrait Serov won the Moscow Art Lovers Society.
Another picture, representing the early period of the artist - "Girl, illuminated by the sun" - was bought by Pavel Tretyakov patron for his collection.
Portraits of the mature period of creativity differ expressiveness, conciseness, emphasized by the exigencies of nature ("MN Ermolov," "Hirschmann VO").
Although prevalent in works of Serov was portraiture, his legacy has paintings of the Russian landscape, book illustrations, historical painting.
After the 1905 revolution, when the artist witnessed the shooting of peaceful demonstration of workers, he wrote many satirical drawings, in which he denounced the autocracy. Certain later works of his work can be attributed to the style of "modern" (eg, "Ida Rubinstein.")
Valentin Serov died in 1911.
