In the late 80's or early 90-ies Ilya Fedorovich bought a plot of land in the Novgorod district in Luban parish, where the river empties into a small stream Tigoda Korodynka, and built a mansion there, which was given the name "Freedom". In Freedom, he harbored a great friend and fellow artist Andrei Petrovich Ryabushkin.
