Default Pissarro

excerpt from the book "The Private Life of the Impressionists"

1871 .. While Paris was preparing for a new crisis, Monet and Pissarro stayed in London. In January, troops captured the German Le Mans (Le Mans)
February 22, warned his neighbor, Pissarro, your blankets, clothes, shoes, underwear will soon evaporate and your pictures plastered room Germans "
In March, the house was rebuilt in Pissarro slaughterhouse.
Neighbor's wife wrote to Pissarro in London to his wife, Julie: the roof of your house broken, doors, staircases and parquet disappeared. The Germans kept the horses in your house, sheepfold in the kitchen and kill rabbits and chickens in the yard. They enjoyed the canvases, tearing them from their frames, as aprons and covered their floor to soak up the blood of animals.

After the Germans left the city, a neighbor found and kept 40 paintings and family watch (they considered it the most important)
The house was 1500 works including works by Pissarro Monet. The best part of 15 years of work was lost ....
