November 5, 1878 - February 15, 1939
Kuzma Sergeevich creative life of the Petrov-Vodkin evolved happily. The transformation of the shoemaker's son in the famous painter, his rapid movement of the Volga backwater in the centers of European culture (St. Petersburg, Moscow, Munich, Rome, Paris), its proximity to the major figures of Russian art in the refined circles of the capital - it all seems fantastic.
Kuzma Sergeevich Petrov-Vodkin, one of the greatest Russian artists of the 20th century, was born on November 5, 1878. He was a talented painter and the schedule, but it was not enough to be called only master of fine arts. He was a writer, author of the excellent memoir of his work over all pictorial matter dominated active, inspired by the content of this matter.
His art was developing at a time when the atmosphere of spiritual quest of the artistic intelligentsia gained unprecedented intensity. His understanding of the world and man, who managed in an atmosphere of revolutionary developments in some depth in touch with the very popular ideals were painted in colors that song almost generalization. And the intelligentsia and the masses went through revolutionary storms not only the ideology but the "mythology". This dreamy, "mythological" facet of his time Petrov-Vodkin expressed an unusually complete and resounding.
In the art of Petrov-Vodkin integrally display the paradoxical structure of his personality: provincial tenacious, thrifty, economical attitude to the material of spiritual activity, on the one hand, and the cosmic scope of hypotheses, design, amazing freedom of thought, intellectual disinterestedness - on the other.
Focusing on the eternal values inherent in the creation of Petrov-Vodkin, could not be taken of the Soviet ideology of the Stalin era. Only in the mid-1960s there was a new discovery of Petrov-Vodkin, so now is clear the true extent of his talent and artistic heritage value.
