In Western Europe, Andrei Rublev is considered as the first Russian artist.
In the 1840s, historian ND Ivanchin-Pisarev, who visited the Holy Trinity Monastery and saw there Rublev's "Trinity", has left in his travel notes the following entry: "Bow to the main local icon of the Holy Trinity, I have long stood before her, wondering depictions of ... It is in itself one of the best and the whole works of art, because the style of drawing and of painting itself seems to blossom in her time of Onaga. It can honor the glory of ancient Russian art. "
In his works, Andrei Rublev has embodied the sublime beauty of spiritual insight and moral powers of man Holy Russia. They belong to the highest achievements of Russian and world spiritual art.
In the first quarter of XV century Rublev created his masterpiece - the icon "Trinity", the plot of "hospitality of Abraham." The traditional biblical story, he filled a deep poetic and philosophical content. Moving away from the traditional canons, placed in the center of the composition a single cup (symbolic of the sacrificial death), and its shape echoed in the contours of the side of the angels. Central (symbolizing Christ) angel took the place of sacrifice and isolated spots expressive contrast of dark cherry and blue, orchestrated refined combination of golden ocher with a gentle "cabbage" and greens. Inscribed in a circle track riddled with deep circular rhythms, subordinates all line contours consistency which produces almost musical effect.
"Trinity" is designed for the long and short-range point of view, each of which reveals different shades of wealth, virtuoso of the brush. Harmony of all elements of the form is the artistic expression of the basic ideas of "Trinity" - self-sacrifice as the highest state of mind, which is building the harmony of peace and life.
Art historian MV Alpatov wrote: "The Art of Rublev - is primarily the art of big thoughts and deep feelings, concise concise framework of symbolic, the art of great spiritual content", "Andrei Rublev, revived the ancient principles of composition, rhythm, proportion, harmony, relying mainly on his artistic intuition. "
