The Museum d'Orsay in Paris held exhibition "The mystery and magnificence of pastels" ( "Le mystere et l'éclat du pastel"), which became an event. It will last until February 1, 2009. I visited this exhibition, having stood a great place. Maurice Quentin de La Tour, Peron, Francois Millet, Edouard Manet, Degas, Odilon Redon ... Impressive. Acquired by catalog (sorry, that reproductions have lost some characteristic luminous pastels). It should be noted that the French word éclat has another meaning: Lights. But really, the impression that the pastel shine in comparison with oil paintings, which, unfortunately, become darker over time. (Basis pastels - these are the same pigments that form the basis of oil painting, not only pigments mixed with oil, but with special glue.)

Artist Georgy Shishkin works in pastels for over thirty years. His commitment to this material, he explains this (interview): "I've been experimenting, searching for material that would be better answered by my internal movements. It gave me a bed greater freedom."
