A two-sided "memento-mori" head
Bead of a rosary, France, dated 1741
A double-faced head finely carved out of bone with a central vertical hole. The faces are split in the middle with young men of different ages on one side and the face of an old man and a skull on the other. Restored age cracks. The underside signed "Frère" and dated 1741. Height 26 mm.
A beautiful object from a marvel room with memento mori symbolism. The young countenance is facing old age and death.
