Russian painter, watercolorist . Born in St. Petersburg . The son of artist P. F. Sokolov ( 1787 ( ?) - 1848) . In 1840 - 1843 he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts K. Bryullov. In 1855 he received the title not the class artist of portraiture. Academician since 1899. He lived in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Traveled extensively in Russia. Was a war correspondent for the Russian- Turkish war of 1877 - 1878 . Wrote genre scenes and portraits , animal , master tracks on the topics of hunting and rural life. Author of beautiful illustrations to Russian and Ukrainian classics ( Turgenev, Gogol ).
