Cologne gave 500 works of Russian avant-garde
Museums in Cologne, will receive a gift or for permanent use 528 works of art. As the ArtDaily, this was officially announced at the pronouncement of the last will of Irene Ludwig, patron of arts, co-founder of the famous Museum Ludwig.
The works will go to the actual Museum Ludwig, which exhibits the art of XX century, and the museum of religious art Shnyutgen. The main part of the gift are works of Russian and Soviet avant-garde. This 473 items, among which 130 paintings and sculptures, 153 drawings on paper and 190 photographs. In the Russian collection features 84 artists, including Goncharova, Kandinsky, Larionov, Lissitzky, Malevich, Rodchenko, Exter. Thanks to the donation of the Museum Ludwig will be one of the most important collection of works by Russian avant-garde outside Russia.
Cologne will also work Braque, Degas, Jasper Johns, Klee, Leger, Lichtenstein, Macke, Matisse, Pollock, Rauschenberg, Feininger, Hofer, Schwitters, von Jawlensky.
Ludwig Museum in Cologne was created in 1976 through a collection of German magnate Peter Ludwig and his wife Irene. Now he owns the third largest collection of works by Pablo Picasso and the largest collection of American pop art outside the United States. Later Ludwiga created museums in other cities and countries, so that in 1995 was opened the meeting German collectors in the St. Petersburg Russian Museum. Peter Lyuvig died in 1996, Irene Ludwig - in November 2010.
