So far I only found this ( see attachment) . Most likely , as your picture, - a copy of the same original . But what ? It is possible that the original has been lost altogether . Incidentally , this copy was attached the following commentary:
Framed oil on canvas, Roman Charity, Continental School, 17th Century, unsigned, sight: 27.5'hx 21.5'w, overall: 33.5'hx 27.5'w. Provenance: According to letters written by the former owner of this painting, GF Richardson of the Southern Pacific Company, the piece was purportedly found among the contents of a sailing vessel that arrived at San Francisco ca. 1850 . It was removed from the ship to a warehouse until it came into the possession of Richardson's family. Exhibited: Bohemian Club, ca. 1921 . Note: Painting accompanied by original letters and articles discussing the piece, including an article in the 1936 edition of California Monthly.
I think if you track down the California Monthly in 1936 , then we can get and additional information.
