At the command of Ivan the Terrible and his own funds in memory of the conquest of Kazan, in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra on the model of the main cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin Cathedral of the Assumption was built. This magnificent temple shestistolpny with five closely-set heads. Today it is as if the whole complex of the dominant, occupying it and geographically central to the monastery. In work on the iconostasis participated Simon Ushakov. Murals executed in 1684, Dmitry Grigoriev, and others. To the north-western edge of the adjacent cathedral tomb of Boris Godunov and his family, over which in 1780 was erected tent tent (not preserved). On the southwest side to the Assumption Cathedral adjoins the so-called Nadkladeznaya chapel, built in Naryshkinskaya style (late XVII .).
