That's interesting.
And all these scenes from the past life of small towns Pale, the whole is a modern stylization of art galut (or rather, invented today, there was then no iso in the Diaspora, the first such things appeared as illustrations for the works of Sholem Aleichem Mendele Moher Sfarima and Yitzhak Peretz) naively looks like now. Look like now, modern paintings with scenes from St. Petersburg or Moscow merchant bureaucratic life of XIX century.
Dear Cyril, is always interesting to read your opinion (always competent, always with the fullness and depth of knowledge, education and taste). But it seems to me that, of course, we can assume this trend - and modern styling (though not quite so so modern - yet many of these artists worked in the middle of the last century already). And you can now talk about the search for "Zeitgeist." Or the attempts to recreate this spirit (and when no, actually, painting something and was not). Unless, of course, correct me, was understood your message.
