Builders who worked at a construction site in Berlin, not far from City Hall, accidentally discovered the works of art, reports Associated Press referring to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. 11 pieces, mostly - bronze statues were discovered a month ago, when the construction site began to dig.
Apparently, the Nazis, these works have branded as "degenerate art." The works were to be destroyed, but for unknown reasons, while it did not happen. Among the found - sculptures by Otto Baum, Edwin Sharffa and Otto Freundlich. Three items have not been able to attribute. Tuesday, November 9, found items will be put on public display.
"Degenerative" Nazi propaganda called virtually all modern art: the artistic avant-garde and modernism seemed anti-German Nazi Party leaders, the Jewish-Bolshevik and izvraschencheskimi. In 1937, samples of "degenerate art" were gathered together at the accusatory exhibition, which followed four years of traveling through many cities in Germany. On the cover of the exhibition catalog was depicted sculpture by Otto Freundlich "new man".
