IMHO, you understand the history of (advance) and painting with an illustrative side. This is not surprising, because you are engaged in the commercial side.
But the history of painting is the history of pigments, grounds, history of art painting techniques. Someone first applies a reception, followed by this technique include an arsenal of other painters. In general, I hardly know how to interpret Van Gogh, Monet, not looking, not knowing their equipment.
I do not know how it affects the investment component of painting, but the quality of art-it is the ownership of existing techniques and creating new ones.
