Examination of timing.
The work is framed in an old wooden frame with stucco
and gilding the late nineteenth century.
The painting depicts the English greyhound - greyhound. The letter "H" on the collar and the date of creating the painting suggest that the image of a dog belonged to someone in the family of Emperor Nicholas I. On the canvas on the reverse side is glued label with the monogram of Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolayevich the Elder (1831-1891). The label is viewed inventory number "821". Most likely the picture comes from the rooms of the Grand Duke Nicholas in the Palace, built by prominent architect AI Shtakenshneider in 1861, which houses a large collection of works by Russian and European art.
Schwabe, Johann-Gottlieb-Alexander (Aleksandr Petrovich) (1824 (?) - 1872) - Russian painter. In the years 1838-1844. studied at the IAH in a class battle painting in AI Sauerweid. From 1845 was employed painter in the Office of the State of the Imperial Horse-Breeding and racing, he wrote a lot of portrait images of horses. In 1850 he received the title of academician. In 1861, the IAH Council found him "worthy of the title of professor of painting animals." Wrote custom portraits of horses and dogs for the royal family and individuals.
