"I am as an artist, brought Tiflis
school of painting, I was born in this city,
everything that surrounded me, that spirit,
These traditions have formed my painting "
Albert Dilbaryan

In the first half of the XIX century the city became the center of Tiflis Viceroyalty of the Caucasus and the center of the artistic life of the whole of Transcaucasia. Hudozhenstvennaya life Transcaucasia in those years - the phenomenon is complex and poorly understood.
A special feature of the cultural life of Tiflis was the addition of two national schools of art - the Georgian and Armenian.
Of all the arts in the first third - the middle of the XIX century, the most intensively painting, but the main type of creative work of painters became easel painting, which has much in common in the choice of subject and means of expression in representatives of both Georgian and Armenian art schools.

Thus, emerging and developed hudozhenstvennoe a phenomenon called "Tbilisi school, part of which was portraiture artists Hakob Ovnatanyana and Stefanos Nersesyan create a gallery of portraits of townspeople Tiflis - hudozhenstvenny document of the epoch.
Tiflis was also a center of art education: this learned and began its activities Armenian artists such as G. Bashinjaghyan, A. Akopian, W. Piradov, G. Sharbabchyan, A. Shamshina and others. All of them participated in the cultural life of the city, showing his work at exhibitions Caucasian society to promote fine arts. This is a company with the late 1880's and until 1907 was the only organization that determines hudozhenstvennuyu the life of the Caucasus as a whole, so that they arranged the exhibition became a real event. At various times, have participated worked in Tiflis artists Armenians: A. Hakobyan, A. Artazyan, G. Bashinjaghyan, E. Tatevosyan, V. Piradov, A. Shamshin, G. Sharbabchyan, sculptor M. Mikaelian.

Armenian intelligentsia played an important role in the creation and development of the artistic environment in the city. One form of social and cultural life of the town were private salons. An important role is played by those owners who were representatives of creative intelligentsia. This salon, which met the writers, actors, artists, musicians were among the editorial staff of the Armenian journal "Ahbyur" (Spring) and "Taraz" (Fashion). The host Salon was publisher and editor of the magazines Tigran Nazarian. If this salon claimed to be to be a center of artistic life and the main meeting place for the intellectual elite of the city, the literary hudozhenstvenny salon Vernatun "played a chamber role. Translated from the Armenian "varnatun" - the upper house or dwelling on the upper floor. So-called House of the poet Tumanyan, who in 1907 moved into a house on the street of the Ascension (now in this house lived the granddaughter of the poet and the house has a plaque). Spontaneously in his house formed literary salon - "Vernatun. Visitors to the poets and writers: A. Isaakian, D. Demirchyan, V. Terian artists Bashinjaghyan G., E. Tatevosyan, V. Surenyants etc.

Organized in 1916, the Union of Artists of Armenian was created by artists who lived in Tiflis E. Tatevosyanom, G. Sharbabchyanom, S. Khachaturian, H. Levonyanom. We took part in its formation and follow-up architect D. Numerical and artists Surenyants B. and M. Sarian. The main form of the Union was an exhibition. The first exhibition of paintings was held in February 1917, and the Union itself lasted until 1921, when he moved to the House of Armenian Culture "Ayartun", which functioned until 1930.

Thus, Tbilisi can justly be called the cradle of a new Armenian art. Unfortunately, so far there is no single study that would find its explanation and scientific justification for this peculiar phenomenon.
A noble goal - to collect, if possible, a complete collection of works of Armenian artists who worked before and now living and working in Tbilisi, is given by a native of the city, a famous scientist in the field of constructions, Ph.D., Professor Alexander Bogdanovich Piradov.
The collection, and perhaps the very idea of its creation was laid in the family kept two paintings my grandfather's brother collector - Vasily Bogdanovich Piradova (portrait of a mother and a portrait of his son), plays an important role in the artistic life of Tiflis late XIX and early XX century. B. Piradov was an essential participant of exhibitions Caucasian society to promote fine arts, as well as one of the founders of mutual Caucasian artists, exhibitions which he also exhibited his work.
Small in size collection includes works by G. Bashinjaghyan, E. Tatevosyan, A. Hakobyan, V. Gayfedzhyana, G. Sharbabchyana representing the older generation of Armenian artists. Major works of these artists adorn the long exposition halls of the State Gallery of Armenia, the State Museum of Oriental Art, National Art Museum of Georgia and other famous collections. AB Piradova merit is that he, in his incessant search (in a very short period for collecting time - 15 years) detects and saves their lives are sometimes lost the authorship of the works of these artists. This happened with the Palestinian etude E. Tatevosyan, with still-life Hmayak Hakobyan and studies "The Summer Garden" V. Gayfedzhyana.
The pride of a collector is acquired by etching Edgar Shahin "Unemployment", which was presented to the author of the famous Armenian writer A. Shirvanzade in 1910 in Paris and brought them to Tiflis.
AB Piradov not just a collector. Gained experience, keen eye, knowledge of technique of many artists helping him to establish the authorship of the famous master, even for unsigned work. This happened with etudes

"In the bath". Intuition prompted the collector, in front of him, perhaps, the early work of Alexander Bazhbeuk-Melikov. Given the fact that the paintings of the early period of the artist almost did not survive, sketch would have represented a special historical and artistic value, if it were possible to confirm the authorship A. Bazhbeuk-Melikov.
Technological research carried out by us in the department of technical and technological research of the State Art Museum of Georgia has shown that the picture painted in the first quarter of the twentieth century and, apparently, is the work of A. Bazhbeuk-Melikov, confirmed that his eldest daughter, Lavinia, the famous painter, member- correspondent of the USSR Academy of Arts, as well as artists Eristavi D., H. Khachaturian, T. Asitashvili, S. Ter-Minassian, etc. The collection of AB Piradova artist A. Bazhbeuk-Melikov represented by three drawings, one of which is made colored pencils, and, says his youngest daughter Zuleika, is the only father figure, made with colored pencils. Graphics of this outstanding artist of extraordinary integrity differs, musicality and plasticity lines. Having a collection of such drawings A. Bazhbeuk-Melikov - very lucky collector.
The value of the collection of AB Piradova consists in the fact that it represented all generations of Armenian artists - natives of Georgia.
To the older generation of painters, in addition to the above, owned Grigorian (Giotto) and Trdat Nalbandian, a disciple of A. Bazhbeuk-Melikov, whose works are extremely rare.

The bulk of the collection consists of works by artists-graduates of the Tbilisi Academy of Arts, in the creation of which, along with Lanceray and G. Gabashvili, participated and E. Tatevosyan. This painting by Albert Dilbaryan (Dilboy) and Leo Bayahcheva, whose still lifes, portraits and views of old Tbilisi distinguishes compositional perfection and harmony of coloristic solutions. Both artists are well known both in Tbilisi and far beyond the borders of Georgia, thanks to the identity of world perception, originality, creative manner. Both together, in addition to adherence to the traditional topics, obostroennoe sense of color so characteristic of the Armenian art in general, and the ability, even in a muted, almost monochromatic color scheme to find the subtle nuances and color transitions.
To this generation belong to the artists Zuleika Bazhbeuk-Melikov
Shamir Ter-Minassian and Robert Kondahsazov. With friendly
Relations AB Piradova with the latest collection is enriched paintings and graphic works relating to different periods of the artist and is one of the representative.
There is a collection of AB Piradova and totally unique things: such as Watercolor "Tabriz, 1922" Dr. Zargaryan, who was a famous Tiflis pediatrician and as it turns out, interesting artist.
With respect to its product does not seem to be entirely appropriate to use the word "amateur" or "amateurish" work, so this watercolor professionally done.
Perhaps most significantly represented in the collection of artist's work Gayane Khachaturian. In the collection are paintings and graphic works of different years.
Official art critic of Soviet times contemptuously snubbed creativity of the artist for "formalism and lack of principle, deliberately turning a blind eye to the distinctive imagery of world perception and expression of color impressions, peculiar to her creative manner.
Free flight of fancy, dressed in the picturesque, the development of color perception allow the artist to express their attitude in harmony colorful combinations. Symphony soft bluish-pink or red alarm tones create a colorful plethora of painting, but whimsical lines, curves slightly illuminated image with its musical rhythms conjure up melting in the air the sound of violins.
Meeting AB Piradova does not represent a complete picture until the formation and development of the Armenian hudozhenstvennoy school in Tbilisi. There are no works by artists such as Ovnatanyany, V. Hodzhabekov etc. However, knowing the passion of Alexander Bogdanovich, it is safe to say that the collection will be updated with new works and new names.
