Claude Monet's Water-Lilies "(1906), considered the top-lot auction of impressionists and modernists, held Christie's in London, did not evoke the interest of buyers.
Prior to the auction held the evening of June 23, "Water-Lilies" was supposed to sell for 30-40 million pounds, but the lot did not even make the reserve price and was withdrawn from auction.
"Portrait of Angel Fernandez de Soto (Amateur absinthe)" (1903) work by Pablo Picasso, is also considered one of the main auction, sold for 34.76 million pounds - slightly better than the preliminary estimates of 30-40 million pounds.
Another picture with the highest preliminary assessment - "Portrait Ria Munk III" brush with Gustav Klimt estimeytom of 14-18 million pounds - went under the hammer for 18.8 million.
Total traded impressionists and modernists in the London auction house Christie's put 63 lots, 48 of which were sold. The total value of sold works of art exceeded 152,980,000 pounds, a record for auctions held in the UK, reports AFP. The previous record belonged to auction house Sotheby's, sell in February 2010 lots totaling 147 million pounds.
