Last week, U.S. President Bush signed another manifesto on the topic "captive nations" with whom he appears annually on the basis of the law passed in the days of the Cold War. In general, all as usual, but this time you will receive one "innovation": unequivocally equated between Nazi Germany and Soviet communism, which are now treated as a single evil »XX century.
Whatever attitude the American president to the period of the Soviet Union and communist ideology, which, incidentally, were subjected to objective evaluation in a modern, democratic Russia, free from ideological stereotypes of the past, neither from a historical point of view nor from a human, those American "parallel" does not stand up to scrutiny. While condemning the abuse of power and unjustified severity of domestic policy of the Soviet regime of that time, we, nevertheless, can not indifferent to attempts to equate Communism with Nazism and to accept the fact that they were motivated by the same thoughts and aspirations.
Historical facts irrefutably show that it was the Soviet Union made a decisive contribution to victory against Germanic fascism. It is thanks to the Soviet Union, selfless heroism and the labor of the Soviet people, Europe was saved from the Nazi occupation and subjugation. This memory will remain forever in the hearts of grateful descendants.
The phrase, which was signed by U.S. president, can not hurt the hearts not only of Russian participants of the war, but I think, and veterans of other countries in the coalition, including the American, who fought shoulder to shoulder for the overall victory and shed their blood on battlefields in the name of freedom and the future.
By the way, we can not see that the estimates of this kind only feed the efforts of those in the political, selfish purposes sought to falsify the facts and rewrite history again. All this against a background of extraordinary tolerance shown by the United States to those in several European countries are trying to whitewash "its" minions Nazis.
Sadly, the new realities of the XXI century old cold war for the minds of the people continues, and using questionable methods. This is the wrong way.
