OSTROUMOVA-Lebedeva, Anna Petrovna (1871-1955), Russian artist, a representative of Russian Art Nouveau, an outstanding master of the species engraving.
She was born in St. Petersburg 5 (17) May 1871 in the family a senior official PI Ostroumova. Attended the Central School of Technical Drawing of Baron Stieglitz (1889-1892), where her main mentor was Vladimir Mate, was also engaged in the Academy of Fine Arts (1892-1900) at the Mate, K. Savitsky, PP . Chistyakov and Ilya Repin. In 1898-1899 worked in the Paris workshop Dzh.Uistlera. In 1905 she married SV Lebedev, famous scientist-chemist. She was a member of "The World of Art" and "Four Arts." Lived in St. Petersburg.
Played an important role in the revival of wood engraving as an independent art (rather than purely Reproduction Technology). Especially willingly turned to color woodcuts, also worked in lithography technique and watercolors.
