I recalled this story in the Christian period of separatism (Balkan, Slavic) provinces of the Ottoman Empire. Some war in Montenegro in 1862 th year. Or in general insurrection in Crete in 66-m. And here and there the mountains and the rebel detachments (as one would say in today's Russia, the illegal armed groups, bandits, etc.).
A possible late story: in 1875 an uprising began in Herzegovina, Bosnia and Bulgaria.
But the mood of the characters in the movie, the action itself on it is up to the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. They've gone on other subjects: "lads", Shipka, Skobelev, Gurko!
