Iosif Ostrovsky - one of the best and world-renowned artists in Odessa, a landmark name in the history of art in Odessa second half of the twentieth century. Iosif Ostrovsky was born in a small provincial town Shepetivka (Ukraine), which was regarded as a kind of "Jewish communities". Artistic talent manifested itself in his early age. When Joseph was 15 years old, he entered the picturesque branch of the Odessa Art College. MB Grekov, and 20 years became a member of Union of Artists.
Iosif Ostrovsky always objected to identify his work with standard phrases and did not like "stylistic classifications. He said: "I - the artist. Not a "realist" and "modernist". Just an artist. Just because I am free and I can express on the canvas his philosophy. "

In 1989, the artist fell ill and moved with his family in Israel. Israeli doctors gave him 4 years full creative life. He participated in the Israeli and international exhibitions and competitions, was the chief artist of the city of Sderot. As before, tirelessly writing, creating architectural design of the city, taught. In 1990, Joseph Ostrowski at the invitation of British philanthropist traveled twice to London.
In 1992, Iosif Ostrovsky is the winner of the competition on registration of new building of the Supreme Court of Justice of Israel. To carry out the project failed. On the eve of Yom Kippur in 1993 the artist left this world, but his art will remain with us always.

The exhibition of Yosef Ostrovsky (1935-1993), a renowned Ukrainian-Israeli artist is being featured at the Moscow's Central House of Artists until April 25, 2010.
 The exhibition includes more than 50 works by the artist, which were created during the 60's and 70's in the former Soviet Union as well as more recent works which the artist produced in Israel.
