Chinese art sets record

Painting with elements of calligraphy Chinese painter Qi Baixo "An eagle on a pine tree was a Sunday, May 22, sold at auction by China Guardian in Beijing for $ 65.4 million, setting a record for contemporary Chinese works of art, reports Lenta.Ru.
"An eagle on a pine tree" was completed in 1946, when the artist was already 86 years (Chi Baixo died in 1957). Pattern consists of images of an eagle and two calligraphic scrolls, it is considered the largest known work of Qi Baixo - 266 to 100 cm - the size of each of the scrolls - 264.5 to 65.8 cm

The amount for which was sold to the Eagle on the pine, second only manuscript of Juan Tintszyanya XI century, which in June 2010 went for $ 67 million

Mezhunarodnoy Peace Prize laureate of 1956 Chi Baixo is one of the greatest Chinese painters and calligraphers modern times. His work is in the collections of many leading museums in the world, including the Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow) and the Hermitage.

In 2009, at various auctions across the world of Chi Baixo brought about $ 70 million, according to this indicator, the artist was in third place after Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol.
