"Finding of Moses" is one of the artist's masterpieces. In 1902 Alma-Tadema went into Egypt, to attend the opening of one of the Aswan dam, where he invited a construction manager John Erd (John Aird). At the same time Erd commissioned artist painting, he being inspired by Egypt, the proposed three story, of which Erd unhesitatingly chose the biblical story of the discovery of baby Moses, Pharaoh's daughter.
Total auction at Sotheby's objects of European art of the XIX century, on 4 November, brought 61.5 million dollars. Among the lots sold - two paintings from the collection of Hollywood actress Demi Moore, and they went under the hammer for a total of 1.3 million dollars.
