The name of Pavel Petrovich Leonov known to many fans of naive art, not only in Russia but also abroad. Like most of the naive artists, Pavel Leonov - a man difficult fate. He was born in 1920 in the Orel region, in the village Volotovskii, changed many professions: he was a librarian, a Pioneer, a painter, tinsmith, worked at a construction site. Several times found himself in jail. During the years of wandering have traveled almost the entire Soviet Union. All this time, Leonov did not abandon his dream - to become an artist.
In 1960 he joined the People's University Distance in Moscow, but soon end its zanyatiya.V 1968 Paul Petrovich resumed his studies at the famous artist and teacher - Mikhail Roginsky. For the first time his work has been shown in Moscow in 1970, his pictures manifested romanticized view of the world, the main storyline was the dream of the prosperity of the country where there is violence and humiliation, where labor is honorable and joyful. Only in 1991, aged 71, Paul Leonov finally began to paint constantly. To him the village Mehovitsy started coming artists, art historians and collectors. In 1990 she organized a gallery of naive art, "The Gift", one of the first art galleries in Moscow.
