In Paris for contemporary art

From the site ART investment.RU - 21.10.2010

Today in Paris opened the 37 th Contemporary Art Fair FIAC (Foire Internationale d'Art Contemporain), which will run till October 24. Venue - the Grand Palais and the square courtyard in the Louvre. First given to the art market heavyweights, the second - the younger galleries and dealers, whose company sponsored booths Galeries Lafayette.
Prestige fair FIAC markedly risen in recent years, and today it is considered one of the major world events of this kind. This year, FIAC involved 195 galleries, including such well-known as Gagosian, Victoria Miro, Hauser & Wirth, Barbara Gladstone, David Zwirner and Eva Presenhuber. From Russia came Gallery M & J Gelman.
Last year the fair had a special stand, which sold 24 sverhdorogih work, including the Mondrian for 35 million dollars, Bacon, 20, and two paintings by Leger, but this time like it was decided not to make, according to rumors, because, that buyers have found only a small part of the works. The following year, however, the organizers promise an exciting new project.

The big event also was the opening of a new gallery in Paris, Larry Gagosian, where you can see exhibitions of Cy Twombly (CyTwombly) and Jean Prouvé (Jean Prouvé).

look at the exhibition of "Kommersant":

Once only and unique, the Fair is forced in recent years to compete directly with the two rivals: the newly opened again in London and Paris as Frieze ArtParis. Experts believe that the fight is won. Considerable success contributed to the work of CEO Martin Bertin, who unexpectedly left the FIAC in June. But the current session of the fair still enjoy the fruits of his leadership. Reaping the glory of his co-director of the once, and now the sole director Jennifer Fly.
In just a few seasons of pure French, almost provincial fairs, subject only to merciless criticism, FIAC has become a giant, affecting the global market for modern art. So say the organizers and fair, and those who this year took part in it. They have become quite prominent gallery owners with a world reputation, starting with the Gagosian Gallery (on the eve of the official opening of its Paris office). Participants were also Max Hetzler (Berlin), Victoria Miro (London), Peter Kilchmann (Zurich), Regen Projects, Blum & Poe (both from Los Angeles), Metro Pictures (New York). Many of them this year chose Paris to London: "This is a growing fair. I prefer to chamber events, in contrast to Frieze, where too many players and no concentration on each of them" - says a spokeswoman gallery Metro Pictures. In addition, FIAC has made a new breakthrough: the gallery came from Korea, Norway, Mexico, Ireland and even Romania. This fact once again confirms that, despite the criticism, Paris has retained the right to be called even if not first, but still one of the world capitals of art-life.
Highlight of the FIAC-2009 was a draft "Modernes". FIAC never was an abundance of contemporary art, the undisputed leaders have already become classics of the masters. Last year, the classics provided the lion's share of the moral and commercial success of the cabin. These pillars of gallery world, such as Pace Wildenstein, Richard Gray Gallery, Louis Carre, Galerie Jan Krugier & Cie, Acquavella Galleries, presented the masterpieces of the masterpieces, worthy of the largest museums in the world. Work Fernand Leger, Piet Mondrian, Kupka, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Francis Bacon ... This year at the fair there is not these galleries, no such quality work. Modernist section is almost completely absent - one can not be regarded as such rather weak work of the Gallery Minotaure. Will these policies impact on the commercial success or failure of the FIAC, is known for four days.
The only one who made a clear request to the classical art - gallery Gagosian. On their stand there painting by Picasso and Giacometti statue. Despite the fact that none of these studies is not among the masterpieces clear strategy chosen by the gallery, which, throughout his life knew where the wind blows. Contemporary art has ceased to be profitable, commercially successful authors provide a time-tested.
Year of Russia, France and the scandal involving Avdei Ter-Oganyan at an exhibition of contemporary Russian artists, "Counterpoint" in the Louvre, in no way influenced the FIAC and the selection of galleries participating salon. After the unfortunate scandal that occurred in 2008 with the XL-gallery (if the police demanded to withdraw the work of Oleg Kulik), XL mistress Elena Selina prefers Paris less conservative London. From Russia takes part only Marat Gelman's gallery, and even her in this year did not get seats in the Grand Palais . They had to settle for rooms in a tent in a square yard of the Louvre, which shows the budding young talent and art dealers, claiming to be an annual award of Marcel Duchamp. Marat Gelman was accused of artificially heated interest in her collection with some glee expect to see on his work bench Ter-Oganyan. So, they are not .
