British actor Hugh Grant has admitted he was drunk when he bought at auction a portrait of Elizabeth Taylor by Andy Warhol, reports The Daily Mail.
This random purchase made in 2001, greatly enriched the actor: six years later, Grant sold the painting for 13 million pounds to 11 million more than it spent on it. Media wrote that, having bought a Warhol, Grant has proven himself a connoisseur of art, and sell the painting - an expert on trends in the art market.
Grant admitted that he asked his assistant, take part in the auction at Sotheby's and purchased a portrait of Taylor in a two-day drinking, in which he participated with his father. To his horror, the assistant acted exactly as he requested. Told the actor, now he was even sorry that he sold his Warhol, despite the fact that he has earned so much in this deal.
In 1960 Andy Warhol created several images of the actress. Before Grant has sold over 13 million pounds, the highest price for a portrait of Taylor, was 7.7 million.
