Art Museum in New Orleans to postpone indefinitely the scandalous exhibition of sculptures by Edgar Degas, cast on the basis of newly discovered 74 plaster casts. The reason for cancellation were doubts about the authenticity of works, According to ARTnews.
The exhibition was to open in November 2011, but the museum's director, Susan Taylor (Susan M. Taylor) said he did not want to communicate with the controversial project in a year when the museum celebrates its centenary. Decision to hold the exhibition was the previous director, Taylor also promised to reconsider the issue more thoroughly. Unknown works by Degas create a stir in 2009 when the 74 bronze sculptures, cast from plaster casts, were represented in the Athens museum. Then they were exhibited in Tel Aviv, Sofia, and soon to go to Havana. Art dealer Walter Maybaum (Walter Maibaum) stated that casts were found in a French foundry. He has already started selling molded kits of 73 sculptures for $ 20 million. The famous "Little Dancer," sold separately.
