Polish Customs seized a parcel with Renoir
Polish customs confiscated a picture of Pierre Auguste Renoir, which suburbanite Warsaw has sent in the U.S. by regular mail. Reported Polskie Radio.
Painting in 1909 (its name is not mentioned) in January, was bought at auction for about 700,000 zlotys (nearly 200 thousand euros).
The representative of the Customs explained that when the precious work of art is exported outside of Poland, the owner shall obtain a permit and pay 25 percent of its value - in this case, 180,000 zlotys (approximately 45,000 euros). Now the owner of the picture waiting for a decision on the amount of the fine. The work of Renoir as temporarily displayed in public in the Royal Palace in Warsaw.
