On June 23 in London will auction auction house Christie's, where to sell the picture of the Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, writes Bloomberg. According to preliminary estimates of experts, the work of Klimt may be sold for 18 million pounds (26 million).
This is one of the last paintings of the artist - Gustav Klimt died in 1918, unable to finish it. On the canvas, embodying Ria Munk (Ria Munk), daughter of Viennese industrialist, committed suicide because of unrequited love in the age of 24 years. Her mother, Aranka asked to write the artist's posthumous portrait of his daughter. During the Second World War, the Nazis seized the family portrait of Munch, and until recently it was kept in the Museum of Modern Art Linz. A year ago the city authorities decided to return the painting to the heirs Munk. This was not the only work of the artist, owned by the family Munch. Aranka sister Serena Lederer (Serena Lederer) at one time owned the largest collection of works by Klimt, but the majority were destroyed by the Nazis in the last days of the war. The fate of the family has developed a tragedy: Aranka Munk, in October 1941 was deported to the Polish city of Lodz, where she died a few weeks later, her youngest daughter was killed in 1942 in a concentration camp Chelmno. Aranka Munk heirs are the descendants of her sisters. (Lenta.ru) |
