Jan van Avercamp
According to Artinfo.com, 06.06. 95 at Christie's auction in Rome was sold to the work of a certain Jan van Avercamp (Old Master Painting, Lot 358). From this it follows that the work has been subscribed, as it does not specify the usual data (year of establishment of the sold work, and years of birth and death of the artist).
Online auction houses Christie's data in 1995 are no longer available. 'Net (as in the literature) there are no other mentions of Jan van Avercamp as an artist. It is possible that someone left a picture of this auction or directory. I'd like to see the signature, even more - to buy on its own catalog of this auction. Thank you in advance for any information on Jan van Avercamp. |
google, - nothing, Artprice, - no.

Analyze any auction of old masters at Sotheby's, Christie's or the Dorotheum. Catalogs and pyshut notable names. But how well-read read carefully, it appears that no more than 10-15%of the work "certainly" was signed. Another 10-15%signed, but controversial, such as the monogram of which can be attributed to a dozen artists. The remaining work are assigned and as time has shown, often attributed to is not true. Not infrequently, in catalogs errors in names, especially on lesser-known artists. The work which you are interested, was sold for around 2000 euros in Italy. It is difficult to rely on information from Italian auction 15 years ago. |
Thank you for the general arguments, however, I am interested in a particular signature and that the picture (Fuga in Egitto), sold at auction at Christie 06.06.95 at Rome.
Moreover, I am interested in absolutely everything about an artist named Jan van Avercamp. And, regardless of time or the price of his paintings. Believe the word, it is not far from an idle question - it can not answer even the professionals. |

Indeed, about Jan van Avercamp information anywhere in the network does not (except in the site Christie's, which has already been mentioned). This in itself is not clear. Karel van Mander about him, too, does not mention. About Jan Avercamp (without the "van" in Holland is not exactly aristocratic
attachment, but more a pointer to the place of birth) a little bit there, but somehow confusing. So on the website: http://fr.truveo.com/video-detail/ijsvermaak/659554662 is there such a picture allegedly Jan Avercamp (see 1). But she is known worldwide as the picture Avercamp Hendrik (Hendrik Avercamp, 1585 - 1634) - see 2, as well as: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hendrick_Avercamp. Hendrick Avercamp - a very famous artist, his paintings are in many museums around the world, reproductions of his works (signed monogram, rarely full name) in the network a lot. So Jan was in the case identified with Hendrick. The website (opens terribly slow): http://www.archive.org/stream/pictur...iiala_djvu.txt Google indicates the presence of phrases "Jan Avercamp", but in reality they're talking about the existence of artists Jfendrih van Avercamp and Jfendrik Avercamp. Same Hendrik? Or not? Alas, nothing more than help. |
