French painter, sculptor and cartoonist - you have to say "unfortunately, the cartoonist, as a remarkable and well known, too well-known caricaturist Daumier, totally overshadowed by Daumier, the artist's genius, without which, perhaps, would not have been the Impressionists, whom he admired Henry de Toulouse-Lautrec and Vincent Van Gogh.

Honore Daumier, along with Adolfon Monticelli, remains one of the largest and most undervalued (as in art, and in the financial sense of the word) artists. I am sure that these guns more shots. but even if there is anyway no one is bad to look at a good painting :)

His instantly uznavaemyya, deeply personal art combines the noble restraint of classicism with irrepressible dynamism of his compositions and an addiction to strong light contrasts, typical of the Baroque. His paintings distinguished by an unusually precise sense of color and rhythm, generous Thickly pained texture, the plastic power of the depicted characters.

Honore Daumier was born in Marseilles in 1808, but soon his family moved to Paris. In his youth he was sent as an apprentice and a printing house, where he became acquainted with the technique of lithography. Old Masters he had studied independently, in the Louvre - with special attention to Rubens and Goya.

Shortly after the 1830 revolution he created his first cartoons for the newspaper "La Karikatyur. For drawing, which depicted Louis-Philippe as Gargantua, he was sentenced to 6 months in jail.

Beginning in 1835, after the introduction of a law that restricts the freedom of the press, he had to change themes. Thus was born the series "Married manners Robert Makere" (1839-42), "Parliamentary scene" (1843), "Ministers of Justice," "decorous citizens"), 1845-48), etc.

Despite the success of his cartoons, Daumier lived in great poverty. In the end, Camille Corot gave him a house in Valmondua, where he settled.

The first retrospective exhibition of Daumier, organized in 1878 by Durand-Ruelle, had no success.
Daumier died blind in the next year after this exhibition.

Iteresno why?

Because of copyright in the modern concept did not exist. The publisher paid for the picture, and then for the sale of circulation artist did not receive. If successful, permanent print additional copies and sold, and in this festival artist, too, did not participate.
In addition, many publishers produced "wild" editions - ordered a copy of the engraving and printed - of course, nothing without paying the artist.
In general, the artist cheated anyone who feels like - what is there to get rich? :D

LCR, Daumier has always sought to do in painting, but only in the forty years he first took up the brush when I think that with the February Revolution of 1848 and his invective mission ended.
First, Daumier worked with newspaper lithographs at night to the day given to painting. Then in 1860 he is trying to break his contract with charivari. It was during this period-50-60's, appear one after another of his works in oil and watercolor, the same watercolors, for which he received during his lifetime, and peanuts are now appreciated as you know.
