(1897-1975), Soviet painter. People's Artist of the USSR (1963). The representative of the SC Board of the Latvian SSR (1965-68). He studied at the Moscow Higher Art (1918) in I. Mashkov. He taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Riga, Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic (1940-41, 1944-52, 1957-75, rector from 1961).
